HART and Fieldbus are field-level protocols — they sit between a controller and the physical instruments on the plant floor, carrying measurement and configuration data. OPC-UA and MQTT operate at a higher level — OPC-UA for structured, interoperable machine-to-machine communication, and MQTT as a lightweight publish-subscribe broker for cloud and edge connectivity.
